An Etymology Tidbit

Recently having graduated from UCLA as a linguist, I am constantly looking up the etymology of everyday words and idioms. The history of the most common words is sometimes quite surprising. I received an email from my staunchly Republican aunt who lives in Oregon:

This same solution is now being used by Obama and his colleagues in Congress to sell you on their health care plan and all the savings that will come with it. Note that it was originally used to resuscitate "drowning victims" so I guess he thinks he can use it to resuscitate us from "drowning in debt".

Hope that made you chuckle. :)
